Tom spent a lot of his childhood exploring the woods and playing in rivers, which undoubtedly shaped his interest in the natural word. Tom combined with this his enjoyment of art and design, and in 1998 completed a degree in Landscape Design and Ecology at The University of Sheffield. He then went on to complete his Diploma in Landscape Architecture, also at Sheffield. Tom has since acquired over 15 years’ experience working as a landscape architect, becoming fully chartered in 2005.
Tom worked as an associate for Gillespies LLP, one of the leading landscape practices in the UK. Over this 10 year period Tom worked on a range of high profile and award winning schemes in the healthcare, residential and public realm sectors.
Struck by the global challenges we now face and inspired by Permaculture, Tom and James decided to form Roundfield in 2011. With work and lifestyle now more attuned to each other, Tom continues to develop his specialisms in ecological design, edible planting and play.
