This “meanwhile” design is a vision of what the central Croydon site could be used for during the 5 to 10 years prior to phased construction. Proposals are two fold: provide a community urban farm and revitalise the existing theatre by creating an events space at the southern end of the farm forming a dialogue with the train station. The idea being that if you are waiting for a train and you have time to spare you can spend some time shopping for local produce, wander through the farm or rest on the terraced ramp and watch whatever is happening in the events space. Additionally, if you are just arriving into Croydon for the first time the space acts as a welcome mat, whilst also directing you towards the centre of the town via the more pedestrian friendly streets rather than the imposing car dominated streets to the south.
